Rocket Ron en Nobby Nic in 29"

Vanaf volgende week leverbaar, de nieuwe 29" uitvoeringen van de Schwalbe Rocket Ron en Nobby Nic. Deze twee banden hebben hun sporen al verdient in de 26" uitvoering, en nu dus eindelijk verkrijgbaar in de grotere uitvoering.

Met de Rocket Ron krijgen de 29" rijders een pure raceband, voldoende grip, maar gemaakt om snel te gaan, met als bijkomstigheid een minimale lek protectie. Het geclaimde gewicht is 520 gram.

De Nobby Nic is het tegenovergestelde hiervan. Hopen grip, Snake skin side wall protectie en een wat hoger gewicht (645 gram geclaimd).

Kunnen de 'traditioneel' ingestelde 29-ers eindelijk ook de Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph combi gaan rijden, en dat is alleen maar positief!

Bladboutjes!

Ze zijn er weer, na een afwezigheid van een paar maanden(!). Morgen komen ze binnen, dus dan kan de uitlevering beginnen!

Alt bars?

So you like these funky bars? They are not as 'alt' and funky as many people seem to think. In fact most of the time they are just the improved evolution of bars used for decades. What makes them special is that they are now strong enough for MTB usage, and that is good. The theory is known; more angle in the grip area makes them more comfortable to ride. Lots of variations are available, from the original H-bar of Jeff Jones through the still popular On One Mary, the Brain Child of designer Brant Richards, to his newest creation, the Ragley Carnegie's bar. The latter now available in a rise (the original), flat and drop version.



The theory behind this (and the Mary) bar is kinda smart when you think about it: forward sweep to compensate for the back sweep at the ends of the bar, rise to compensate for the drop at the end of the bars (you use the bars angled down a little, rigth?)

Now there is a flat (for a more racy, deeper position) and a drop version too. An issue with a medium or small 29-er frame is sometimes that the rider wants a deeper position on the bike without using an angled down stem. The drop in the bar compensates some height compared to the original riser version, giving the rider a deeper position.

Surly Big Dummy

Surly, bekend van zijn no-nonsens, maar zeer doordachte, doelgerichte fietsen, heeft al een aantal jaar de Big Dummy in het programma. De Big Dummy is een transportfiets, gebasseerd op de eens erg populaire extracycle fiets extensie. Met de Extracycle werd de achterkant van een willekeurige fiets verlengd waardoor er ruimte ontstond voor twee grote zijtassen en een extra lange bagagedrager. Omdat de extracycle erg functioneel was, maar niet erg stijf in combinatie met het hoofd frame, hebben de mensen van Extracycle Surly gevraagd om een fiets frame te ontwikkelen waarbij het extracycle achterframe met een MTB hoofdframe werd samengevoegd tot 1 frame. Het resultaat van deze samenwerking is de Big Dummy. In combinatie met de Xtracycle accesoires ontstaat een multifunctionele transport fiets die het mogelijk maakt de meest uiteenlopende zaken te vervoeren.



Zoals bij elk Surly frame is eigenlijk over elk detail nagedacht. De kromme bovenbuis, die veel ruimte biedt aan de berijder bij het afstappen, alle mogelijke nokken voor spatborden, voordrager, achterdrager etc. Ook is het frame speciaal voor de Rohloff naaf klaar gemaakt, wat nog maar eens aangeeft dat Surly deze fiets ziet als een serieuze vervanger voor de auto; een hoog gebruiksgemak gecombineerd met laag onderhoud. Natuurlijk zijn ook alle nokje aanwezig voor het monteren van derailleurs. De klant is koning en bepaald hoe de fiets opgebouwd en gebruikt gaat worden.

Will that bike fit??

I get quite some questions from people asking what frame size they should get, given their body geometry. Of course this is a very personal thing, everybody is different.

But there are also a lot of people which are (in size) more or less the same. For all these people, normall or odd sized, I started a separate board on the Singlespeed.nl.eu forum.

I invite all people to login and to enter their measurments in the correct topic. This way we may be able to build a database with lots of different measurements, so other people can take advantage of that.
